Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family?
I was born in Bendigo in 1980, I have lived here all my life and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. My immediate family and many friends still live here as does my husband's family. I met Nick in 2000 when we were working at Hungry Jacks together & we married in 2004. My brother and sister-in-law also met at Hungry Jacks and are also married! I became a mum for the first and only time in 2013 when my mini-me daughter Addison was born and completed our family. Our family also consists of a crazy Lab x Kelpie Billy who is almost 3 and a 12-month-old budgie Bruno.
What do you think is special about Bendigo?
I love so much of what our town has to offer. The history, the yearly traditions such as the Easter Fair, the mix of city and country living and just how pretty Bendigo can be all year round. Most locations are 15 mins or less to get to, it's busy enough for me without being a big hustle-bustle city and it just feels like home.
What is your favourite suburb and why?
We live in Maiden Gully and love it, so I would be mad not to say it's my fave suburb - although we do need some infrastructure out that way, it's not far to town or over to Eaglehawk. It's quiet, a great family community and we love the location.
What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I don't have a lot of hobbies anymore, I used to be a passionate, semi-competitive Crossfitter for many years and that took up a lot of my time, now I just enjoy spending time with family & friends, travelling, a bit of shopping, gin tasting and of course shopping - both online and instore!
Tell us something we wouldn't know about you?
I did the Eureka stair climb and Bendigo Bank fun run in 2013 while I was pregnant - and I didn't know it at the time! I also appear in the video footage of Princess Diana’s visit to Bendigo where I gave her flowers at the age of 3 - it's on YouTube!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love the relationships I have formed over all my years in Property Management, many of my clients are now people I could call my friends. I also love helping people who are so grateful that you have been able to assist them in putting a roof over their heads, that is by far the most rewarding part of the job. Property Management doesn't feel like work to me because I love it.
How did you get started in the field of property management?
I was working at Powney’s Newsagency in the Hargreaves Mall in 2005 and was approached by the late Andrew Johnstone to come in for an interview for a real estate receptionist with Doug Lougoon for real estate. I didn't have my Agents Rep at the time but they hired me and I completed it on the job. At the 6 month mark, our Property Manager left…and Andrew said, it's your turn - time to show us if you can sink or swim - and here I am 18+ years later still in Property Management. I highly credit Doug & Kerry Lougoon for the most amazing start in this industry, I worked for them for almost 8 years until I left to have Addison.
How do you stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in property management?
Would anyone be surprised if I said I read the Act and any legislation updates for fun?! True story… I pride myself on my knowledge of the relevant laws and it is important to have a thorough knowledge of the industry in which you work, knowing your stuff can set you apart from your competitors.
What’s a really good piece of career advice you’ve been given?
Know your worth and be confident in your ability to sell your service and your brand, always!
What would you be doing if you weren't working in property management?
I’m really not sure….I always thought I’d be working in child care and studied this when I left school. Property Management just fell into my lap and although I never thought about a career in this industry, now I can't think of anything else I’d rather do!
If you could invite 3 famous (dead or alive) people to dinner, who would you invite and why?
100% - Tina Turner and Rafael Nadal would be the first 2 without a doubt! I am a massive fan of them both. Oh, and Bradley Cooper…YES PLEASE.
