Bendigo Blue Ribbon First Cross Sale - Friday 4th November 2022

With approximately 27,000 sheep yarded at the Bendigo Livestock Exchange, the stage was set for a strong sale. McKean McGregor was responsible for the sale of close to 8,000 sheep with pleasing results for all vendors across the board. After a trying period for many vendors with inclement weather, it was fantastic to see the support from repeat buyers.
The market toppers, at $440 a head and winners of the James L Cartwright Memorial trophy in the 1/1.5 year old section went to first-time sellers Ian and Lynn Rathjen from Colbinabbin. McKean McGregor's client DR Collins & Partners took home the Best Presented pen for the second year running with their tops making $420 a head.
There was a really strong bracket of sheep making $360 - $400 with the second drafts also selling strong around the $300 - $330 mark.
The first draft ewe lambs were slightly back from previous years but still satisfactory selling for around $300 - $375 whilst the secondary ewe lambs held strong coming in around $250 - $275. The tail-end ewe lambs weighing approximately 38 - 43kgs sold for $220 - $245 maintaining a good average across the board.
Buyers from across the state including Ballarat, Hamilton, East Gippsland were all active on the day and whilst the demand was strong, the market displayed some price inconsistencies for those vendors, not as well-known known or first-time sellers.
A huge thanks to everyone who came and supported the Bendigo Blue Ribbon First Cross Sale.
